Amazon.com: Once upon a time kids learned many of their school lessons in the three-minute episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. These educational cartoons came on during the commercial breaks of the less-than-edifying Saturday morning fare in the 1970s, and despite their healthy content, kids stayed glued to the screen to sing along to the somewhat psychedelic cartoons. Countless children hummed their way through social studies. The Preamble to the Constitution is much easier to remember when it's set to music. And everyone who saw the cartoon remembers how a bill becomes a law ("Oh, I'm just a bill, a lonely old bill, sitting here on Capitol Hill"). These and eight other shorts make up America Rock, a 30-minute program that will stir patriotism and teach kids a bit of history. Whether you're an adult who remembers fondly his Schoolhouse Rock days or a parent trying to help a child with school, this selection will have you singing that "knowledge is power." A bonus cartoon of "My Hero Zero," performed by the Lemonheads, is included at the end. --Jenny Brown

I always enjoyed the School House Rock series when I was a kid. Of course, the series had been out for some time before I saw them on VHS. I bought this on VHS because my son, who is 6, took interest in the other two tapes we have left. I figured I would get it for him in this format because the VCR is down where he can get to it and many of his other movies are on VHS (way cheaper). We plan on buying the whole set for a Christmas present this year, but figured we could test his lasting interest ... Read More

No, the School House Rock segments are not all correct, nor are they right on the money, when it comes to History. But, you have to realize, they were never meant to be. Our text books in school are not 100% accurate either. SHR was never meant to be 100% accurate. It was created to make kids think, and present the material in a way where it would be fun. Yes, alot is left out, but alot more is in there also. Im am so sick of people trying to be so POLITICALLY CORRECT these days. GET OVER IT, and ... Read More

This was a great show. I can't say anything better than the other reviewers, so I'll just say that this tape is a low-cost alternative to the DVDs that were released if you just want a little of the show for nostalgic purposes.

I have rented this video for the sake of a trip down Memory Lane. Of course, fourteen years produce a great shift in gullibility. I hated this video for its teaching of American ideology in perhaps the least open manner imaginable. For example, in

Well, i am here to say this is a fabulous tool! I watched all of these as a child and have shared them with my children. For those of you with the less than 5 star reviews let me say...This is not meant to be an exhaustive history lesson! It is a great way to introduce children to the history of our country. Something that, in my experience, schools made very boring. My children love history. If you find it not as accurate then be the one to take the next step and research it with your kids. ...
